Love is a revolution

Rating:

Love Is A Revolution... More like love is a power that can't be contained. Love is brewing in the most awkward yet pleasant way.

Renee Watson dishes out some important messages, such as envy among Black families, finding strength in self-love, and favoritism.

I believe there is power in loving yourself, but it seems to fall short in the middle of this book. The main character, Nala, doesn't seem to have much grace from her counterparts when she "believes" that she has to alter herself for a love interest. It's very contrasting to the overall message of practicing individualism.

Overall, it was a genuinely relaxed yet fun read. There were plenty of parts that spoke to my teenage heart. I hope this story inspires and informs youthful Black girls stuck in an awkward phase about their bodies, love, and more.
